Database Consultant

Reporting to: Professional Services Manager

Key Contacts:
Internal : Professional Services Team (Development, Production, Consultancy team), Sales Team, General Workforce
External : Customers, Prospects,

Main Role:
Working closely with other departments within GB Group, the Consultant is responsible for managing the implementation and ongoing development of our client's marketing databases, thus making key recommendations on database and marketing strategies.

Understanding of GB’s clients requirements and their business in order to make recommendations of GB’s offerings and services.
Development of client relationships, pre-sales and organising training

Key Responsibilities:
• Overall management of the allocated customers and associated project management. Help identify what the customer needs to do next and be proactive in the relationship.
• To create and maintain all database specification and associated documentation, design, build, implementation and ongoing support and analysis of client databases.
• Management / Creation of campaign selection specifications and the management of campaign selection and response processes.
• The consultants role is to communicate the resource required, secure it and keep the development team posted on changes to resource required
• Management and control of profitability of all projects, to company targets. This is to include sign off prior to contractual commitment and after contract sign off.
• Implementation of all Company policies and procedures.
• Production of all necessary reports to keep Management informed of the progress of the projects.
• Liaise with the Management team of the division to ensure a consistent and professional approach to all staff of the company.
• To maintain existing departmental procedures and develop further as appropriate, ensuring compliance within the department.

Requirements
Knowledge
• A strong working knowledge of database management and relational database structures and design
• A demonstrable understanding of the direct marketing industry key drivers/metrics.
• A knowledge and understanding of industry available data sources, data protection compliance and the role that they play in the solution.
• Understand the risks associated with Database Management projects and implement the necessary procedures to eliminate the risks.
• The candidate should be able to demonstrate a good understanding of technology and the role that it plays in this environment.
• Knowledge of the application of analysis techniques

Experience
• A proven Project Manager in customer facing projects. Internal projects are also relevant.
• Experience of Database Design/Database Management/Database Marketing.
• Experience of direct mail and campaign management including digital campaigns.

Skills
• Strong leadership and people management qualities to motivate and guide the team. This will include direct reports and indirectly, colleagues such as the development team, sales team and marketing.
• Strong planning and Time Management Skills are absolutely essential with the ability to set realistic deadlines and adhere to them.
• Excellent customer facing skills to:
o Manage the customers expectations
o Set realistic projects/resource plans
• Strong commercial skills to ensure all projects are delivered to the company’s profitability expectations.
• Ability to work with the sales team in a pre-sales role to add credibility and experience to the sales process. This could involve software demonstrations.
• Manage internal reporting. Ability to provide the management team with the required reports.
• Have the ability to liaise with the technical teams to ensure a realistic timeframe is quoted for projects, whilst managing expectations within the sales team and the clients
• Ability to advise / challenge / guide the customers in terms of marketing, campaign and data strategies.
• Ability to manage a number of projects concurrently.
• Ability to manage the implementation of database developments through a structured change control process.
